Do you struggle to get greens into your child? This smoothie will help. I’ll admit it, I even find myself turning to a tasty smoothie when I don’t feel like eating my greens the regular way.
This smoothie is packed with healthy fats from avocado and chia seeds to give it staying power and prevent blood sugar surges. Plus, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds have around 5-6 grams of plant-based protein and are an excellent source of magnesium to support a growing body. If you aren’t used to adding avocados to smoothies, don’t worry! The added creaminess offers an ice-cream-like texture. I recommend freezing avocado halves in air-tight containers, like reusable silicone bags.
Baby spinach is a mild-flavored green that is almost unnoticeable in the taste of this smoothie. But its mild flavor masks a powerful source of nutrition! Spinach is a good source of iron and provides vitamin C, and phytonutrients! Or, as the Super Crew calls them, “fight-o-nutrients” because they fight off disease and help support a strong body and mind. Plus, it adds to the fun green color of the smoothie, making it an exciting and nutritious breakfast.
Tip: The freezer is an excellent repository for those overripe bananas you’d otherwise toss. They blend perfectly with the greens. Peel them, break them in half, and store them in an airtight package.
